Tuesday 11/8/16 time 8:34 PM - Tuulia -head organizer
As many of you have already heard or read from our facebook page, the 2016 Hellocon was the last one. Here is a little explanation on the reasons behind this hard decision.
The main reason is that the event grew too big for us. Everything is organized by non-paid non-professional volunteers who love lolita fashion.
Hellocon had quite sudden and unplanned beginning. A Japanese lolita band was interested in performing in Finland and the smart event organiser asked our lolita community if there were people interested in organising a small event around the concert... Jenni (head organiser) stepped up and the rest is history.
But this leads us to one of the issues why Hellocon is now gone; it is because of the way Hellocon got started. Our event tickets were very cheap in the beginning and we felt it was hard to raise the price enough to match the real organising costs. We raised it a little bit every year but comparing to any other European lolita event the tickets were still quite cheap. And you all know Finland is not a cheap country, quite the contrary. We had panic attacks over the budget weekly. We prayed people would buy enough tickets to cover the rent and flying guests of honor here! It was so close we didn’t call off the whole Hellocon last year. The event had grown too big and it started to feel like our capacity isn’t enough for it anymore.
So how did we pull it of then? By working extremely hard, by getting amazing group of people to work with us, by having fantastic community that supports us and hosts program at the event every year. A huge thank you for everyone!
The event was completely organised by volunteers which is amazing but also creates another challenge; life happens and volunteers’ situations change. This means more work for remaining volunteers who now have to handle more work than what they originally signed up for, resulting to burn outs. Thank you, all the volunteers during the years, without you there wouldn’t have been Hellocon at all!
We all wanted to organise Hellocon to create something for our community. We have been part of lolita fashion for some time and it has given so much to us! We really loved being able to make something that brings the whole community together, place to meet with friends and a safe place for newcomers to find more about the fashion! Our only reward for doing it were happy visitors! I loved seeing the excited post before and after the event, your coords, your photos, your shopping hauls, everything! As a long time lolita it also feels amazing that we got all these wonderful guests to come to Finland! Over ten years ago when I started the fashion I never in my wildest dreams would have thought to be receiving thank you letter from Baby’s designer, have Midori to walk on stage in my creation, make business and friendship relationship with Atelier Pierrot CEO or organising a teaparty in a theatre museum with Angelic Pretty!
So huge thanks to all of you for supporting and visiting Hellocon these past 4 years! It’s been an absolute blast and I’m extatic that we were able to create this event with so many visitors from different countries!
Even though Hellocon is now gone, Hellocon ry (organisation) is still alive and well! We still have the same dream about creating fun events for the community, but this time we also want to be able to have fun ourselves while doing so. No worries, this is actually not the end, it is just a beginning of new suprising events. In fact we already have started to work on something and it will be sooner than you might expect!
So stay tuned for the new adventures!
Tuulia and the whole Hellocon ry team

Tuesday 5/17/16 - Jenni - head organizer
Friday 4/29/16 time 6:50 PM - Tiina - decorations
I'm Tiina and I'm doing the decorations for Hellocon for the second time this year. I have graduated as a fashion designer and I have always enjoyed designing and crafting. It's been a very interesting journey to learn to plan and make event decorations as well.
I'm very inspired by our new beautiful location, the Rose Garden theme and the Hellocon flyer made by Charlotta! I think everything suits perfectly our guest of honor, Baby the Stars Shine Bright.
This year, the decorations for Hellocon have been made in co-operation with D-sign Luotsi project in Hämeenlinna. Its goal is to provide guidance for unemployed people, who have studied or are interested in creative fields. In D-sign Luotsi they encourage everyone to find their own thing and go for it, no matter if it's woodwork, jewelry, clothing, painting or anything else! Please visit their facebook page where you can see more of their projects. You can find more information about Luotsisäätiö on their website.

Almost all Hellocon decorations were made in D-sign Luotsi's workspace and everything is made from second hand materials found in D-sign Luotsi storage, such as copper wires, glitter, paper, old curtains and scraps. During the process we used multiple different techniques such as dyeing the fabric petals with crafting paints because we wanted to make them more multi-dimensional and we didn’t have pink fabric in the right shade. Of course there was lots of sewing and glueing and I even got to try out plaster. Nothing goes to waste in D-sign Luotsi project! We still haven't decided what to do with the decorations after Hellocon, but most likely they will be used again for something.
I can’t show you the end result just quite yet but here’s a sneak peek picture of the making process! I think especially the teaparty table decorations came out somewhat creepy…
Thursday 4/14/16 time 7:36 PM - Heidi - Guest of honor assistant
Sunday 4/3/16 time 8:32 PM - Tuulia - head organizer
I am Tuulia, one of the Hellocon and Baby the Stars Shine Bright tea party organizers. I was also in charge of the tea party last year! I’m very excited to be working with Baby to create yet another amazing Hellocon tea party! This year we are changing the things a bit and we will actually be serving a warm meal during the event! The menu includes savoury starters, sparkling wine, spinach-ricotta-canneloni as main dish and cake and tea for dessert. Check out the detailed menu here.
We chose the theme for the tea party to be Children of the Night –masquerade ball, which suits the image of Baby's darker label Alice and the Pirates perfectly! The venue, Hotel Arthur main hall, suits the theme impeccably well. The main hall is actually an old Jugend era church which creates a perfect setting for a vampire ball. Notice that the tea party is at the old Jugend building next to the newer extension, so instead of entering from the the main door, enter from the Jugend building door.
We have prepared a lots of program for the Children of the night –masquerade ball tea party. There will be classical music performed by Loviisa Karhumäki, a vampire themed pole art performance by Shadow, meet and greet with Baby the Stars Shine Bright, best dressed contest, a bingo and lots of other interesting activities!
Next I wanted to list some movies that you can get inspiration for preparing your outfit for the ball. First up of course, Dracula movies!
“Listen to them, the children of the night. What music they make!”
― Bram Stoker
Then another obvious choice is Interview with the vampire. Isn’t little Claudia an ultimate gothic lolita?
And lastly, to get you in the mood of a masquerade ball and for the love of Bowie, the ball scene from The Labyrinth!
Have you already started to plan your outfit for the Children of the night-masquerade ball? What is your inspiration?
See you at the tea party! ♥
Saturday 2/27/16 time 6:53 PM - Charlotta - Illustrator
Nice to meet you!
I'm Charlotta, the artist behind this year's Hellocon illustration. I got my inspiration from the guest of honor Baby, the Stars Shine Bright's and its sister brand Alice and the Pirates' designs. The theme of Hellocon 2016 is rose garden and for the tea party the theme is masquerade ball. My idea was to combine these two themes in one image while keeping our guest of honor in mind. The lolita dressed in bonnet represents the rose theme and sweet style like Baby, the stars shine bright. Wearing more classical lolita style, the character holding a mask is meant to represent Alice and the Pirates. It's my second time being responsible of the Hellocon official art and I'm glad I can once again contribute to this fantastic event trough my artwork. I hope you like it! Lolita fashion is one of my biggest inspirations so I'm always happy to draw anything related to it. More about my art and lolita style in my tumblr.
Wednesday 1/13/16 time 3:29 PM - Jenna - vendors
My name is Jenna and I am the new vendor representative of Hellocon. I have had my own accessories brand for several years now and I have been a vendor myself at many conventions so I am very familiar with being a seller in events like this. Because of that I am very excited to be part of Hellocon 2016 and make it also a great event for not only all the visitors but also for the vendors. I am very happy that people have already sent applications, thank you so very much! I hope many more will apply so we can get the most amazing and versatile range of vendors to offer. If you have any questions or comments at all feel free to ask them! I will do my best to help you before, during and after Hellocon 2016.
I hope I will see you in June!
With best regards,
Monday 1/4/16 time 7:35 PM - Tuulia & Jenni - head organizers
Hellocon is back! We are very proud to present to you Hellocon 2016 which, as some of you may have heard, wasn’t a certainty. We would like to thank our dear visitors, your love and support gave us the encouragement to keep on going despite of all the hardships we have endured. Another thanks goes to our fantastic guest of honor, Baby the Stars Bright! We are astounded that such a significant Lolita fashion brand wants to attend our event and we are joyous to be able to welcome them and you to Hellocon 2016!
Hellocon is an event completely organised by volunteers, by our desire to create something spectacular to celebrate the fashion we all love! This year we wish to bring the organisation team closer to our visitors so we will be making a series of blogposts introducing our team of organisers. You will also be getting a little insight of what we are working on and how Hellocon is made!

Thursday 12/24/15 time 12:13 AM - Jenni - head organizer
We hope that everyone is having a merry Christmas! Today we have thrilling news for you, because we would like to announce that our guests of honor for Hellocon 2016 is:
In 2004 Baby the Stars Shine Bright participated in making the movie Shimotsuma Monogatari – Kamikaze girls. This movie was made to make lolita fashion more known around the world.
A sister brand named Alice and the Pirates was established in 2007. The concept for this sister branch is “what if Alice got lost in a world full of pirates?” The clothes have a darker feeling to them with a high attention to detail.
In 2007 Baby the Stars Shine Bright shop opened in Paris. In 2009 and 2014 two more shops opened in America, one in San Francisco and one in New York. Baby the Stars Shine Bright has also participated in many events outside of Japan, attending tea parties and holding fashion shows. From the year of 2011 the company also holds tea parties in Shanghai, China and has a head office there to help spread the knowledge of the lolita style.
Presenting Baby the Stars Shine Bright in Hellocon is the CEO of Baby the Stars Shine Bright, Akinori Isobe, and the designer Kano Masumi!
Kano Masumi studied design and pattern making at university and got a job at Baby the Stars Shine Bright after graduation. She does not like to design overly cute, therefore her style is more elegant, and she likes to design fairy tale inspired doll-like clothing. Her first event overseas was the Japan Expo Convention in Paris and now she have traveled to countries like China, America, Canada, Sweden and Chile to attend conventions, events and to organize fashion shows.
Wednesday 12/16/15 time 2:30 PM - Jenni - head organizer

The winds of change are blowing and we have planned many great things for Hellocon 2016 and there will be many great surprises in store for our visitors! The first big change is a brand new venue!
We welcome you to enjoy the next Hellocon to the Event Arena Bank, an old bank building, which has been transformed into its current state honouring the original 1950’s style. Hellocon saa jatkoa! Seuraava tapahtuma tullaan järjestämään kesäisessä Helsingissä 18-19.6.2016. Päätapahtuman teemana ja inspiraation lähteenä toimii lumoava ja elegantti ruusutarha. Päätapahtuma sijoittuu lauantaille ja sunnuntaina järjestetään jo perinteeksi muodostuneet Hellocon teekutsut (tänä vuonna uudella twistillä!), joista julkaistaan lisää tietoa piakkoin. Tänä vuonna Helloconissa puhaltavat uudet tuulet ja luvassa on paljon parannuksia, yllätyksiä ja muutoksia. Yksi niistä on uusi tapahtumapaikka!
Vuoden 2016 Hellocon pidetään ensimmäistä kertaa tapahtumatalo Bankissa, jonka juhlava 1950-luvun tyyliin modernilla otteella sisustettu pankkisali tulee takaamaan hulppeat raamit seuraavalle Helloconille. Uusien ja avarien tilojen ansiosta pystymme tarjoamaan kävijöillemme enemmän ohjelmaa, myyntipöytiä ja muuta tekemistä. Tapahtumatalo Bank sijaitsee mukavasti Helsingin keskustassa lähellä Esplanadin puistoa osoitteessa Unioninkatu 20, Helsinki.
Julkaisemme lisää tietoa tapahtumasta ja kunniavieraistamme pian, joten pysykää kuulolla! Liput tulevat myyntiin tammikuussa 2016. Päivitämme parhaillamme nettisivujamme sekä sosiaalista mediaamme, joten pahoittelemme mahdollista häiriötä.
